All graduated.

So, needless to say, I basically stopped all of my updating. It was just too hard to keep up during my last little bit of school. I was staying after as often as possible trying to make up hours. Between all of that and work, I dropped the ball. BUT I'M DONE! So I guess I will add a couple of big things that went on! The school is having a hair show on Oct 14, called X-fear-ience. Since I'm not a student anymore, I can't participate. However, they had a small competition between students to make-over another student for the advertisements to promote the hair show. I chose to use Cristina as my model, and I really loved how everything turned out. They wanted everything to be DARK, to go with the theme of the show.

It was seriously so much fun, especially to have my work being photographed by a professional. I think it's work I'd like to get into in the future.

Well, now that school is through, there are a few older things I need to catch up on and post, and I'll try to soon. I've been keeping myself busy by doing hair out of my house for coworkers and such, along with my serving job.

Getting caught up.

Man this last week has been a hectic one! For our 4th of July float, we had a competition. Each participating student was given a mannequin head, and we had to do hair/makeup. The works. The theme was fantasy. Each and every mannequin turned out SO GOOD. Everyone had a completely different idea of fantasy so everything was really unique. Some were super sci-fi and some were just elegant. The winner was a girl who cut and styled the hair completely to look like a monarch butterfly. It was soooo cool. Her make up and cape were all decked out in butterflies too. I ended up staying at school until 9:45 pm on Tuesday (I'm supposed to leave at 5!) so that I could finish mine and turn it in. I did a glam fairy for mine.
I don't really have a great picture of just the hair. The picture I have of the back also includes the whole tripod so it's not upclose of what I did to the hair. You can kind of get an idea of what I did from this picture, even though it's a lot cooler than what you can see here.

So that's that. I'll show some things I did about 2 weeks ago. First I'll start with my love Mary Beth! She was ready for something different. She was also going home to visit all of her family so she wanted to look gooooood.

I love love love it on her! (And I love Tori's cute face peeking over her shoulder haha!) Anyway, MB has super thick curly hair, so I really needed to remove some weight for her. To make it easier for her to style and just to not feel so heavy. I cut a square line and then did flat layers. For the color I did a full head weave with a 3N. It turned out really nice against her natural hair color! The whole thing just looks super good on her!

Well I walked this morning in the Murray parade so I woke up entirely too early so I'm honestly too tired to post the other hair I wanted to share but I'll make sure I do soon!

It was time for a make over.

Well it's been a little bit, but I've still be alright at taking pictures! I certainly don't take pictures of every client, but that's because seeing the same hair cut over and over again gets boring. So I try and document the more excited or drastic changes.

This woman came in and was with me pretty much all day. She got the main floor makeover, which includes hair color, cut, manicure, and make up. She had blonde highlights already but her regrowth was pretty bad so I retouched those and then I gave her a new cut. Here are my two before pictures :

The technique I used for her cut was triangular graduation. The same cut 50% of women have right now!

This next client was coming in looking for more blonde in her hair, and a new cut. She also wanted a few peek-a-boo reds. Like fire engine... so that's what I gave her!

Here are the afters: I was so pleased with how the cut AND color turned out on this one. I think it was a definite change she needed. The technique I used on the haircut was a square line with triangular layers.

Slow week

Well, it's been a slow week. Or maybe it just seems like that because I've barely been at school... having all the new car drama and what not. So I've just got one example of work I've done this week. It was an older woman with shorter hair. Believe it or not, shorter hair is sometimes more challenging than longer hair. Everything is more noticable. Here are my two before shots :

So, it wasn't much, just a little bit of a trim. It made a big difference, though. The technique I used on her was convex layers. Near her nape I used clipper-over-comb, then shear-over-comb to blend. K that's it for today! I'm off to Vegas this weekend for the IBS Las Vegas hair show.

Kick Start

I have a lot of old pictures of hair I've done, but I think I want to just start fresh. I really need to make a better attempt at taking pictures of EVERY client I do, EVERY day. Honestly I'm taking on anywhere from 1-4 appointments a day, so I really have a lot of work I could show. Hopefully having a blog will keep me more accountable. So as my start of the blog, I've got 3 things I want to show!

First - this is a simple "updo" I did to my own hair before work one day.

It was really simple to do, and took me about 10 minutes. It's really hard to find ways to do long hair, so I'm happy I have an option now.

Next, are 2 examples of child's cuts I did in the last week. I really love to cut little girl hair, especially when it's something drastic, because they always love the way they look after. I can tell, because they won't stop smiling at themselves in the mirror.

This little girl was 6 years old and had never had her hair cut by anyone but her mom, so it was a big deal. Both of her parents were there taking tons of pictures, and she had a blast.

Haha, she was so cute. You can tell she loves it, look at her little sass. The technique I used for her cut was triangular graduation.

Here's another little girl that I gave a haircut to today. She's 9, and has barely just had her hair trimmed, and never in a salon, so it was time for a big change.

YEA! She for sure needed to chop that nest off. It felt good doing it. The techniques I used were a square line and square flat layers. I used a square line to balance out the roundness of her face, and I added layers to remove weight.
